What are dermal fillers?

Dermal filler injection is considered the most advanced and effective solution for harnessing signs of ageing and combating wrinkles. It is administered directly to the area of concern, allowing the skin to immediately plump, producing a natural, dewy glow. Most modern non-permanent fillers are made of stabilized hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body. This helps hydrate and add volume to your skin. As you age, the natural replacement of hyaluronic acid is reduced and therefore the moisturising and plumping effects decrease, which is where fine lines & wrinkles start to appear.

Where can they be used?

Dermal fillers can be used on the face, neck, décolletage or backs of hands to revitalise and refresh the overall appearance of your skin and help instantly improve facial lines, acne scars and other contouring deficiencies.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Facial fillers can be used on a wide range of patients, and is primarily used for skin rejuvenation and the reduction of wrinkles, fine lines and laughter or smile lines. It can also be used to treat scarring in some cases. Other suitable candidates are those seeking to add structure and volume to the face.

There is no known risk to those who are pregnant or breast feeding, but we would advise against having treatment under these circumstances.

Does it hurt?

You may feel an initial sting but only for a moment. Dermal fillers are injected using extremely fine needles. However, in order to make the procedure far less painful your advanced and experienced aesthetic practitioner may numb the area using a topical anaesthetic cream prior to commencement of treatment to minimise sensation of treatment.

Procedure Time

Treatment time for dermal fillers can vary, but the average time is around 30-45 minutes. After the treatment you will need no down time meaning can fit your injections into your daily activities – perfect for those with busy schedules and lives.

Anaesthetic: Anaesthetic cream for about 20-30 minute if needed

What result can I expect to see?

The post-operative results are immediate and significant, with skin appearing younger, tighter and dewier. Dermal fillers are low risk, with any complications being extremely rare. Recovery time is negligible and the patient can maintain their lifestyle with no downtime. Immediately after treatment there may be slight redness, swelling and an itching sensation in the treated area. Do not expose treated area to intense heat such as solarium and sunbathing or extreme cold. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that needle puncture could contribute to another eruption. However taking a course of Zovirax or Aciclovir cream prior to the day of treatment can reduce the chances of this occurring. After the initial treatment of wrinkles most patients choose to have followed up treatment in 6-12 months. However, you can repeat the procedure as often as you like, depending on the degree of improvement required. A top up treatment within 2-4 weeks of the initial treatment may be required to achieve optimal results. This normally requires a smaller amount of product.

How quickly do I get results?

Results are evident immediately but will continue to develop over the following couple days.Duration of results: 6-12 months
